After School Experience
The After School Experience is designed to offer a wide range of options for how students can meaningfully spend their time after the regular school day ends. Each family can select from a package of classes, lessons, and care in order to tailor the after school experience so that it fits each child’s interests and talents. Our goal is to curate the After School Experience so that families can secure most of what they want for their children here at Turning Point from 3 - 6 pm and not have to worry about the logistics of lessons and classes elsewhere.
The After School Experience is divided into three sections: Mastery, Introductions, and After Care.
Our “Mastery” offerings are designed as individual or small group lessons with a specific goal in mind:
- In Music Conservatory, the goal is to learn the language of music and eventually master an instrument.
- In Language Lab, the goal is to develop an understanding of a culture, and eventually master the language associated with that culture.
- In Martial Arts Dojo, the goal is to strengthen the body and mind, and to achieve belt levels in a specific martial arts discipline until a black belt is achieved.
- In Tennis Club, the goal is to learn the game of tennis at a high level.
“Mastery” lessons are scheduled ‘a-la-carte’ based on the scheduling needs of the student/family, and families can begin Mastery lessons at any time.
Our “Introductions” are designed to allow students to explore their interests through After School Classes, without a large commitment of time. Students are not asked to do work outside of class time. The focus is on the process; giving students exposure to the skills and ideas embedded in the class so that they can decide if they want to use the class as an ‘introduction’ to take a step further and seek mastery in the discipline. Each “Introductions” class consists of eight lessons offered on a Trimester basis.
Our “After Care” occurs whenever a student is with us after dismissal, but is not enrolled in a Mastery or Introductions class/lesson. “After Care” includes closely supervised play, organized activities, nutritious organic snacks with fresh fruits and vegetables, quiet places for homework to be completed with teachers available to assist, and pianos in multiple locations so parents who who wish for their children to practice may schedule practice sessions. “After Care” is always available on a scheduled or drop-in basis.
