Thank you for your interest in Turning Point School. We are currently offering individual in-person campus tours to prospective parents.  All tour guests must present proof of up-to-date COVID vaccination to visit campus. Due to high demand and space limitations a submitted application is required to schedule your in-person campus tour. To access any of our fall virtual admissions information sessions or to start the application, simply submit the online inquiry.

After submitting an inquiry, you will be able access the virtual admissions info sessions in your Admissions Portal. Families who submit the complete application and fee will also be able to access the online tour schedule link. Please note that should a family submit an application and wish to withdraw their application following their initial visit, we will refund the application fee.

Tours are by appointment and designed for adults only. Guests of Admissions will be required to show proof of vaccination. Please note that due to limited space availability, we are only able to facilitate in-person campus tours for families inquiring for the 2022-23 school year at this time. Families looking to apply for subsequent school years will be contacted with additional tour opportunities this spring.

We also invite you to learn more about our community through the resources below:

  • For preschool consideration in the 2022-23 school year, we require that students be 2 years 9 months by September 1, 2022. Full toilet training is also required by the start of school.
  • Kindergarten candidates must be 5 by September 1, 2022. Students born September 2017 and later are encouraged to apply to our preschool/pre-k program.
Turning Point School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or national or ethnic origin or ancestry in the administration of its education or admissions policies or its financial aid, athletics, or other programs.

Our admissions process is designed in accordance with community health and safety guidelines as well as adherence to regulations from the LA County Department of Public Health and other applicable agencies.

Our goal is for all applicant families to learn about our community and visit campus as a part of the admissions process. For 2022-23 applicants, we will continue to offer a range of virtual and in-person experiences to prospective families as they inquire, apply, and enroll.

The steps to apply to Turning Point School are:

  1. Complete online inquiry
  2. Participate in a virtual admissions info session
  3. Complete online application
  4. Parent/guardian virtual conversation
  5. Submit recommendations and school records
  6. Student visit/meet-up
  7. Apply for financial assistance (if applicable)

Turning Point is pleased to announce that the ISEE will no longer be required as part of the Middle School admissions process. Our continued work around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion informs us that this is reflective of our goals as a community.

Turning Point School offers information sessions designed to provide a thorough introduction to Turning Point School, our mission and ethos, and essential information about our community. We will also provide helpful tips for families as they embark on their school search. Please complete an inquiry form to register.

Complete Online Application

After completing an Inquiry Form, you will be provided with an online user account where you can then submit your application. Please complete the Applicant Information, Family Information, and Parent Questionnaire. A non-refundable application fee of $150 is required at the time you submit your online application. If you plan to apply for financial assistance and require an application fee waiver, please contact our office.

Parent conversations are conducted via Zoom and are approximately 45 minutes in length. All custodial parents/guardians are expected to attend. The purpose of the conversation is to better understand your child and family as well as your goals, values, and expectations regarding your child’s school experience.

Submit Recommendation and School Records

All necessary forms may be accessed in your application portal or listed under Required Forms (see below).

  • Families applying to preschool, pre-k, or kindergarten should request their school submit the Preschool/Pre-K/Kindergarten Evaluation Form directly to our office via email. If the student is not currently in school or attends only daycare or toddler group, no form is required, however, we welcome any supplemental information from childcare providers. All recommendations should be submitted between December 1, 2021-January 14, 2022.
  • Applicants to Grades 1-7 should submit two full years of report cards plus the first marking period of the current school year; or any school records available (for example a first grade applicant might not have any formal academic records/transcripts yet). All records must be sent directly from your current school to our office between December 1, 2021–January 14, 2022.
  • A Teacher Recommendation Form from the current head teacher is required for each student applying to Grades 1–5. Candidates applying from private school must also submit the Administrative Recommendation Form.
  • Two teacher recommendations, preferably Math and English, are required for candidates applying to grades 6 and 7 using the common recommendation forms. Candidates applying from private school must also submit the Administrative Recommendation Form. Candidates who do not have separate teachers for Math and English may submit one recommendation from the current teacher for all subjects, and one recommendation from the previous year’s teacher or another educator who knows the student well.

The Admissions Team is actively designing opportunities for students and families to visit campus so that we might better know your child and in turn, you will better understand the fit our community can provide your child. We will provide additional information as we finalize plans for on-campus events, which will be facilitated in adherence with LA County Public Health regulations.

Formal assessments/interviews for students applying to Preschool-Grade 4 are not required unless the Admissions Committee believes it is necessary to render an accurate decision. We recognize that an accurate assessment of children in this age range is difficult to obtain virtually. Ideally, if an assessment must take place, we will work individually with families to provide an in-person option that suits their child and their developmental stage. If conditions allow, these assessments may take place during the school day with our faculty or outside of regular school hours on a weekday afternoon or weekend. We will reserve the right to require a virtual assessment if circumstances deem it appropriate.

Meet-ups for students applying to Grades 5-8 will be 30-60 minutes and are designed to better understand a student’s personality and interests, as well as answer any questions they have about the school. Our plan is to host these meet-ups on campus in February. However, we may elect to host virtual meet-ups should circumstances require a change of format.

Tuition Assistance APPLICATION

The tuition assistance application is a separate process that should begin only after your application for admission has been submitted. All families who think they may need assistance should apply even if they are unsure if they will qualify as future funding may not be available to families that do not apply in their first year. For more information, please visit the Tuition & Financial Assistance section below.

Preschool & Pre-K

Middle School (Grades 5-8)

Placement Fee

A one-time entrance fee of $1,500 per child is required for each new student.

Payment Plans

Families have the option to select payment plans of one, two, or ten installments. Tuition amounts reflect a discount for paying with cash or check. Credit card payments are accepted and paid at the non-discounted amount, which is up to 2.85% higher than the cash discount amount.

A non-refundable deposit of 10% of the tuition amount, which will be applied towards tuition owed, is due upon enrollment.

Financial Assistance

Tuition assistance is available to qualified families who would not be able to attend without this support.

Approximately one in four Turning Point students receive tuition assistance with awards ranging from 10-80% of tuition. The Tuition Assistance Committee considers a range of factors in reviewing each family’s application including income, assets, and liabilities. While there is no standard income guideline, families making less than $250,000 in annual income with one child will likely qualify for some tuition assistance. We cannot guarantee that all who apply will qualify, or that our budget will meet the needs of all who qualify to receive tuition assistance. However, we encourage all new and returning families who will need assistance to apply.

Applications for tuition assistance for new and returning families are available beginning in December through ISM FAST. Families must apply by February 4, 2022, for consideration. Please contact the admissions office for additional information.

To reach the Admissions Office, please call (310) 841-2505 x128, or email any of our representatives directly.
