From the Office of Admissions

At Turning Point School, our focus is to nurture each child’s complex cognitive, social, emotional, physical, ethical, and creative development. We seek to enroll students with strong academic promise and to engage with families who share our philosophy of educating the whole child throughout their formative years of learning.

We recognize that finding the school that best fits your family is a journey. The admissions team at Turning Point is committed to thoughtfully guiding you through the steps of the application process. Through this process, you will be able to observe how our dedicated faculty foster each child’s innate inquisitiveness and maximize their individual potential. As we learn about your family and the goals you have for your child, we will also share with you the perspective of our current students, parents, faculty, and staff. Like our community, the admissions process is designed to be warm and personable for parents and applicants alike.

Our success is measured in the matriculation of globally aware graduates who possess not only academic prowess, but also strong character, resiliency, and a joy for life-long learning. We are proud to offer families in the greater Los Angeles area a premier preschool through middle school program. We invite you to visit our campus and see for yourself what sets Turning Point apart!

Sincerely,

Christian Davis

Parent Interview

Once you have submitted your application you will be able to schedule your parent interview online via the online admissions portal. Parent interviews are 45-60 minutes in length and all custodial parents are expected to attend.
For families applying to Grades 3-5, please contact our office so that your parent interview and student visit may be scheduled for the same date. Additionally, for students applying to Grades 3-5 we require that school records and recommendations be received by our office prior to your appointment.

All necessary forms may be accessed in your application portal or listed under Required Forms (see below).

  • Families applying to preschool or kindergarten should have their school submit the Preschool/Kindergarten Evaluation Form directly to our office via email to info@turningpointschool.org. If the student is not currently in school or attends only daycare or toddler group, no form is required. All recommendations should be submitted between December 1, 2019-January 17, 2020.
  • Applicants to Grades 1-7 should submit two full years of report cards plus the first marking period of the current school year; or whatever school records are available (for example a first grade applicant might not have any records yet). All records must be sent directly from your current school to our office between December 1, 2019–January 17, 2020.
  • A Teacher Recommendation Form from the current head teacher is required for each student applying to Grades 1–5 at Turning Point. Candidates applying from private school must also submit the Administrative Recommendation.
  • Two teacher recommendations, Math and English, are required for candidates applying to grades 6 & 7. Candidates applying from private school must also submit the Administrative Recommendation. Candidates that do not have separate teachers for Math and English may submit one recommendation from the current teacher for all subjects, and one recommendation from the previous year’s teacher.
  • Candidates for grades 6 & 7 must also submit their scores from the ISEE. To ensure timely receipt of scores, be sure to include Turning Point School (054174) as a score recipient. The test may be taken at any site. To learn more about the ISEE and to register, click here.

Apply for Tuition Assistance

Tuition assistance is a separate application that is filed at the same as your application for admission. This application process runs concurrent to, but separate from, the admission process. All families who think they may need assistance should apply even if they are unsure if they will qualify. Tuition assistance decisions are delivered at the same time as admissions decisions. Tuition assistance applications are due on February 10, 2020 and timely submission is imperative to ensure your best chance of receiving an award.

Affording Turning Point

We are dedicated to making a Turning Point School education affordable to all qualified students without regard to financial ability. Tuition assistance is available to qualified students that would not be able to attend without this support.

The Tuition Assistance Committee reviews each family’s application and allocates tuition assistance with a goal of assisting families in paying what they can afford. It is determined by evaluating a family’s ability to contribute to their child’s educational costs, and uses information that includes the family’s household income, their tax returns, and personal statement, among other factors. We cannot guarantee that all who apply will qualify, or that our budget will meet the needs of everyone. However, we encourage all new and returning families who will need assistance to apply.

Applications for tuition assistance for new and returning families are available through ISM FAST. Families must apply by the February 10, 2020 deadline for consideration. Please contact the admissions office for additional information.
