Mission

Turning Point School is an independent school that provides harmony between the structure of a rigorous academic program and the freedom that guides each child through the many academic, emotional, creative, physical, social, and ethical turning points the primary, elementary, and middle school years present. We succeed when our students become responsible, well-balanced adults who are confident, honest, knowledgeable, community-focused, globally oriented, joyful, and well prepared to face a challenging and changing world.

Philosophy

We believe children are best prepared to face life’s many turning points when they are provided with an intimate, focused learning environment committed to individual understanding and respect. A Turning Point education immerses students in rich learning experiences that encourage and build natural curiosity and reward ingenuity.

We consider ourselves to be in partnership with our students’ families. We help balance the many dimensions of a student’s life with an integrated curriculum that develops not only intellectual and physical skills, but also the creative, emotional, and social skills critical to success and active involvement in society. Class sizes are limited, allowing teachers to know the hearts and minds of every student.

At Turning Point, we aim to graduate students who are respectful, responsible, curious, confident, innovative, and globally aware adults, fully prepared to make meaningful contributions in a challenging and changing world. While classroom instruction is the foundation of a Turning Point education, it is not the totality. We teach our students to embrace challenge as the pathway to discovering their own abilities and resourcefulness, while Turning Point’s inclusive, nurturing community strives to instill a fundamental sense of integrity.

About Us

Turning Point School is a private, independent, coeducational day school in Culver City, California, enrolling students in preschool (2 years, 9 months) through middle school (Grade 8) from the west side of greater Los Angeles. A nonprofit, nonsectarian institution, Turning Point School is governed by a board of 15 to 18 Trustees.

The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the California Association of Independent Schools, and has earned International Certification through the Council of International Schools. Professional memberships include the National Association of Independent Schools, the Educational Records Bureau, the Independent School Alliance for Minority Affairs, and the National Association of Principals of Schools for Girls. Turning Point is also an affiliate of the American Montessori Society.

While Turning Point School has transformed its size, facilities, and curriculum over the years, the beliefs that have shaped the school’s path — the basic understanding of and respect for each student as an individual — remains the same. At Turning Point School, the true measure of an education is still the character of the students it produces.
