Turning Point School Names Inaugural Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Raul Gonzalez PhotoTurning Point School is pleased to announce its inaugural Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Raúl González.

Mr. González was previously the Associate Head of School for Academic Affairs at GSD International School in San José, Costa Rica, where he led a comprehensive academic curriculum for students in Pre-K through Grade 11. In addition, Mr. González collaborated closely with finance, hiring, admissions, athletics, global initiatives, and school communications.

Prior to his work with GSD, Mr. González served at Palmer Trinity School, an independent school in Miami, for twenty years in several capacities including teaching (Spanish and film), advising, service learning, international student travel, fundraising, and diversity and inclusivity programming.

“I’ve found a home at Turning Point, which really excites me. There is a strong commitment to educating the whole child and I know we will reach new heights in our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts,” said Mr. Gonzalez.

Mr. González will join Turning Point in July 2022 as part of the senior leadership team reporting to Dr. Laura Konigsberg. He will work collaboratively with all departments and constituents to advance DEI initiatives and ensure the school furthers its strategic goal to drive a culture of inclusion and belonging.

Mr. González earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and Theatre from the University of Sacred Heart in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and a Master of Arts in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain.

He is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and has over 30 years of experience in teaching and curriculum development, creating strategic partnerships, and implementing inclusivity practices.

“We are thrilled to have Raúl join our community in this integral role,” said school head Dr. Laura Konigsberg. “When Raúl visited campus, I was particularly impressed with his ability to connect with all members of our community. His diverse educational journey, passion for creating belonging, and his genuine interest in the wellbeing of students will make him a wonderful advocate and ambassador for our school.”

In addition to his passion for learning and education, Mr. González enjoys international travel, cooking, producing and directing theatre and film, reading, and volleyball. Raul is the father of three wonderful adult children and will be joined in Los Angeles by his husband this summer.
