Parent Support Association

Committees and Purposes

Our Parent Support Association (PSA) exists to augment the school's efforts in enriching our children's education. The effectiveness of these committees depends on the commitment of parent volunteers. Your help is needed and very much appreciated.

Room Parent Coordinators: To help recruit and organize the Room Parents and act as a liaison between the faculty/administration and the parent body.

Hospitality Committee: To greet and provide refreshments on several Thursday and Saturday mornings for families who have applied to the school. The committee also answers questions at the PSA sign-up table at the Back-to-School Picnic.

Book Fair Committee: To help students make selections and add up their purchases during a two-day traveling bookstore.

Jog-a-Thon Committee: To assist in TURNINGPOINT's athletic fund-raiser by collecting pledges, distributing prizes, supervising the awards, overseeing the water station, and coordinating laps run with donations. These are just some of the opportunities available on this far-reaching committee.

Silent Auction/Dinner Dance Committee: To plan and organize this evening by soliciting auction items and promoting ticket sales. To staff the event in rotating shifts so that committee members can enjoy the evening too! It's a fun and creative way to meet other TURNINGPOINT parents.

Support Workshop Committee: To help teachers prepare materials (by cutting, pasting, drawing, laminating) for the classrooms and for special events (e.g. Winter Concert, Jog-a-Thon).

Yearbook Committee: To take pictures, prepare layouts, and complete paste-up for our special yearbook. Interest in taking pictures, layout, paste-up, and organization is appreciated.

Library Committee: To assist the school Librarian with clerical tasks such as shelving, repairing, filing, sending out notices, and checking out books.

Earthquake Preparedness Committee: To create an awareness and help prepare the site in case of a disaster by collecting supplies and planing and executing a yearly school-wide earthquake drill at which the children are informed and the school's needs are reassessed.

Merchandising Committee: To organize orders and distribute TURNINGPOINT logo T-shirts, sweat clothes, caps, water bottles, and license plate holders.

Bulletin Board Committee: To design and decorate the school's main bulletin board to promote upcoming school events and holidays.

Public Relations/Press Releases Committee: To prepare press releases announcing TURNINGPOINT news to the local media.

Community Service Committee: To work with the faculty's Community Service Coordinator in organizing volunteer opportunities between the school and various community organizations.

Historian: To accumulate the school year's memorabilia for preservation in a scrapbook.

Treasurer: To maintain the accounting for each PSA event.
