fine arts picture The music program, based on the teachings of Zoltan Kodály, promotes the enjoyment of singing and movement and seeks to open the child's mind, body, and emotions to the musical experience. Musical elements and concepts are introduced sequentially at each grade level. Solfege and the rhythmic system of the Frenchman, Cheve, provide the basics for this instruction. Activities which prepare and expand on the students' musical skills include performing canons, ostinati, melodic and rhythmic exercises in parts, sight reading, dictation, and improvisation.

All conceptual activities grow out of the song and game materials, which are chosen to promote in-tune singing and the enjoyment of making music together.
