TURNINGPOINT School is an independent, nonsectarian, coeducational school enrolling students in Primary (2 years, 10 months) through Middle School grade 8. The campus is located at 8780 National Boulevard in Culver City.
The school was founded in 1970 as a nonprofit institution, orginally named Montessori of West Los Angeles, by a group of educators and business professionals who strongly believed in the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. In October of 1989, the name was changed to TURNINGPOINT to represent the series of turning points that children and schools experience as they grown and mature.
Additionally, TURNINGPOINT emphasizes a strong partnership between home and school, recognizing this partnership as a source of its vitality and strength. Thus, each child's positive self-esteem is nurtured in a warm, inclusive community setting.
The Elementary Division expands on previous learning experiences, promotes the concept of self-growth and discovery, while preparing students to meet the academic and personal challenges of seventh grade and beyond.
The Middle School creates a small community for learning where stable, close, mutually respectful relationships with adults and peers are considered fundamental for intellectual development, and cognitive and personal growth.
At all levels TURNINGPOINT instills in its students a sense of integrity and a joy of lifelong learning.
