The Campaign of Turning Point School

When we moved into our current state-of-the-art Culver City campus—a campus more than five times as large as our previous home—we were amazed by how much space we had for our educational programs and extracurricular activities. In a very short time, we were once again bursting at the seams as a result of expanded programs and more students.

To find our current site was a lengthy journey—one that took many paths, most of which dead ended, but fortunately for our students and our families, led us to Culver City. Culver City was once considered a place that you drove by on Interstate 10 or Interstate 405. As a recent headline stated, “In Culver City, Calif., Art and Food Turn a Nowhere into a Somewhere.” And we are a vital part of that somewhere.

Turning Point has emerged as one of the top tier independent schools in Los Angeles, the state and the nation. We have accomplished much in our 39 year history, but our work is unfinished. Our dreams for Turning Point and its students continue.

The Campaign for Turning Point is designed to extend and preserve our mission and educational philosophy. Anyone who has visited Turning Point classrooms knows that magic occurs each and every day. As one parent said, “You see happy children being taught by happy teachers.” The Turning Point School Campaign will provide our teachers with the optimal space that they need to teach and the optimal space our children need to learn.

Unlike our long journey to our current site, Turning Point needed to only look next door for the opportunity to acquire space that would meet our facilities needs for decades to come:

  • Nearly an acre of additional outdoor space
  • 50,000 square feet of flexible, indoor, single story space under one roof

Highlights of Our Expansion Program include:

  • Green elements and sustainability
  • New 416 seat theater
  • Dedicated band, dance and music space
  • Multi-media center
  • New art studios
  • Visiting and student art galleries
  • Three language classrooms
  • Instructional Support Center
  • 7 more classrooms
  • Middle School Center
  • Faculty Center
  • Parent Support Association room
  • 4 new meeting rooms
  • Additional parking
  • Ability to grow the school over time

Today: 132 square feet per student

Tomorrow: 229 square feet per student
Sustainability

Environmental stewardship and sustainability have influenced all building decisions from the beginning of the project. The new academic building itself will become an environmental laboratory, incorporating “green” elements wherever possible. Solar panels will provide the exterior lighting for the new facilities. Plants located strategically throughout the building will help to purify the air and generate a fresh supply of oxygen. Occupancy sensors will turn on and off the lights when we walk through the building. Display boards will educate students about energy use and utilization of recycled products in the completion of the facility. All to save the resources that many of us take for granted. Turning Point students will gain a profound understanding that they have responsibility for the future.
