Message From the Head of School

Since its inception in 1970, Turning Point School has defined itself as a school and community that is forward thinking. To that end, a decade ago, Turning Point recognized the potential of Culver City. In this decade, the place we chose to be our permanent home reinvented itself. From rancho, to studio, to warehouse district, to art district, we find ourselves at the center of an urban Mecca.

When he founded Culver City in 1913, Harry Culver’s first advertisements read, "All roads lead to Culver City." Now, thanks to a farsighted Board of Trustees, all roads lead to Turning Point--a Turning Point that is vibrant and growing.

On the horizon is an expansion that will address the needs of our exceptional faculty and students. Today 8780 and 8794 National Blvd conjoin to create one campus with an arbor path leading to the entrance of greater opportunities and of every kind of stimuli imaginable to excite the innate curiosity of our enthusiastic learners. The 68,000 square feet of new space will serve the entire school community, with seven more classrooms, three language labs, two additional art studios, a multi-media center, a multi-purpose theatre, an outdoor environmental classroom and a green playing field.

We will have one expansive campus that not only supports our stellar academic programs, but is designed in concert with the city to truly combine the traditional and contemporary. The physical landscape of Turning Point will change dramatically, but our traditional values, our culture and our philosophy will flourish. We will enhance our distinctive strengths and stretch into new areas.

To complete our expansion, we have embarked upon the largest campaign in the history of our school—to raise $15 million through a combination of philanthropic support and innovative financing. As I think about our ambitious and challenging goal, I am reminded that throughout our history our families have always been generous when called upon to translate our dreams and vision into reality. I am confident that this generation of families will seize this chance to make a difference, not just for our students today, but for generations of students.

The possibilities are limitless, when you have the talent and the space. We have never been short of talent. Now we have the additional space. We have set everything in motion. We are Building Tomorrow Today. As one Level 8 student stated in visual terms, “The path grows with every step you take…
