Specialist Camp Policies and Procedures

1. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes close when they reach maximum enrollment, so you are encouraged to sign up early.

2. Specialist Camp is open to new and returning Primary through Level 8 Turning Point students. Levels listed refer to the grade students will be entering in the 2012-2013 academic year.

3. Registration for Specialist Camp begins on Monday, January 30.

4. The cost of a five-day class is $255.00 per week. The cost of a four-day class is $205.00 per week. Classes that require extra supplies have additional materials fees.

5. Campers can sign up for any combination of weeks 1 - 4. There will be no camp on Monday, July 11 or Wednesday, July 4.

6. We have added a second session for week 1. The morning session is from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. The afternoon session is from 12:30-3:30 pm. There is no Mini-Camp for Week 1. The cost for one session is $205 plus materials fee. The cost for both sessions is $375 plus materials fees.

7. All classes during Weeks 2-4 meet from 9:00 am-12:00 pm, after which Mini-Camp is available. Week 2 Volleyball Camp will meet from 12:30-3:30 pm.

8. Early morning care will be provided free of charge beginning at 8:30 am for the duration of Specialist Camp.

9. New Primary families: You will note that all of our veteran Turning Point families use Carpool drop-off in the morning. We understand that for your child, there might just be too much "new," so we ask that you walk your child into camp on the first day of each new Specialist Camp week. However, we also encourage you to use Carpool drop-off as soon as your child is ready. If you walk-in on Monday and/or Tuesday, and you think that on Wednesday your child might be ready for Carpool, please give it a try. Transitioning to Carpool drop-off as soon as the child is ready is consistent with what will happen this September, and so it is important for our younger students to be accustomed to this transition.

10. Please remember that the Grassy Area and the Primary Playground are reserved for campers and teachers only. It is much easier for all of our campers to separate if the play areas are reserved for students and teachers only.

11. To enroll your child, complete the registration form. Return the form with a check for the entire 4-week amount as soon as possible as many classes fill quickly. The registration deadline is Friday, April 13. Payments should be marked Attention: Specialist Camp.

12. Checks should be made payable to Turning Point School and be exclusively for Specialist Camp. Do not combine payments with traditional summer camp, after care, or tuition.

13. If you are registering more than one student, you may combine the Specialist Camp payments. However, please submit a separate registration form for each student. (Additional forms are available online or at the Front Desk in Building 1.)

14. On May 14, 2011, a confirmation letter for both camps will be mailed to notify you of your child(ren)'s enrollment. If you do not receive a confirmation letter, please contact Ms. Rogala at the Front Desk.

15. You will be notified if any of the classes you have chosen are full. There will be waiting lists in case of cancellations.

16. You will also be notified if any classes have been terminated due to insufficient enrollment. At this time, you may choose another class (depending on availability).

17. There will be no refunds, except for classes that are terminated by the school due to insufficient enrollment. Payment shall be considered binding.

18. Dismissal from Specialist Camp is promptly at 12:00 pm. There will be a 10-minute grace period strictly enforced. Mini Camp fees and policies will apply starting promptly at 12:10 pm.

Santa Cruz Island Trip

The Level 7 study trip doesn’t take our students far, but they feel as if they are half a world away. This camping adventure to Santa Cruz Island, part of the pristine Channel Islands National Park, gives students a chance to become fully immersed in a living ecosystem right in their own backyard. As an extension of the environmental biology curriculum, the trip features rock climbing, night hikes with astronomy study, and guided tours with expert naturalists. Students find their home base for the week in a carry-in, carry-out campsite—students learn to get by on essentials, and take all waste with them when they depart, leaving the site as pristine as when they arrived. Activities on the island are designed to build self-confidence, teamwork, and trust. Students return, knowing that they have passed through a life-altering experience.
