Mentor Program

Initiated during the 2008-2009 school year, Turning Point's “ Mentor ” program is designed to expand upon the successful “Families” and “Big Buddies” programs via mentor relationships which bridge the Elementary and Middle School Divisions. The emphasis of the program is to provide opportunities for positive leadership, character development, and a growing awareness about community connection.

The mentors and mentees meet together in small groups 8-10 times over the course of the academic year under the guidance of Middle School advisors and Elementary teachers. The mentors and mentees engage in an integrated curriculum, including academic problem solving, teambuilding, service learning, and human development.

The program track begins in Level 3, when every Level 3 student is assigned a Level 6 mentor. These mentored “pairings” continue for three years, until the mentors graduate out of Middle School. Upon the graduation of their Level 8 mentors, the Level 5 mentees are accepted into Middle School as Level 6 students, and thus become mentors themselves. As Level 6 mentors, they are assigned a Level 3 mentee, whom they are responsible for mentoring for three years (until they graduate from Middle School after Level 8), and so the mentor cycle continues.
