Jazz Band

Our philosophy stresses the importance of music education. While the Turning Point School music curriculum covers a broad spectrum from classical to pop, it is in the jazz genre that many students have their first opportunity to work with wind, string, brass, and percussion instruments. One of America's most lasting contributions to world culture, jazz provides an opportunity for students to perform using contemporary style and sound. All students play an instrument—each receiving instruction in reading music and playing technique. Jazz Ensemble continues into the Middle School Division as one of three trimesters of performing arts. For those students who seek to be the next Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington, jazz is offered as an elective in 7th and 8th levels.
