Manipulatives

Mathematics will always be a crucial element to a well rounded education. At Turning Point School, we not only work to develop mathematical skills within our students, but to encourage curiosity beyond the basic skills. Mathematics is a part of our world, and we try to emphasize this relevance to all our students through our “everyday math” perspective. We begin in the Primary division by providing students with their first exposure to the building blocks of mathematics through manipulatives. By interweaving language development with manipulative skills, we illustrate the real world applications of mathematics. Throughout the Elementary division, we use real world application to introduce concepts of numeration, computation, patterns, functions, geometry, measurement, and chance. By the time our students enter the Middle School division, they have developed curiosities in each of these areas and are eager to problem solve within their pre-algebra and algebra classes.
