At Turning Point School we understand both the practical and cultural importance of foreign language study for all our students. Students begin in the Primary division with integrated Spanish lessons. These short lessons focus on music, art, drama, and story and help students develop an “ear” for the language. Once in the Elementary division, the curriculum shifts to emphasize an appreciation of Spanish-speaking cultures and to introduce the listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills that will constitute Spanish instruction in Middle School language classes. In Middle School, students gain the option to include Latin in their curriculum. Language instruction in Levels 7 and 8 provide the first year of language foundation, so that students may enter Latin II or Spanish II when they begin Upper School. A study of culture, as always, remains an ongoing presence in the curriculum.
