Middle School : Character

The beginning of adolescence marks another critical turning point in a person's character. Having developed a sense of self as well as concepts of right and wrong, students in Levels 6-8 are exposed to an ever-wider array of perspectives and assume more responsibility for their own educations.

Our students explore ethics in everything they do. Through dialogue with their teachers, role-playing, and critical observation, they are able to work through the nuances of ethical behavior across the curriculum. By activating their sense of personal and public responsibility, our students develop a deeper understanding of the rewards of self-discipline and an ethical life.

Advisory Program

To maintain a positive and supportive educational environment, Turning Point School has developed a unique Advisory Program to improve the study skills, interpersonal relationships, moral development, and character development of our entire student body. Each coeducational advisory group consists of seven to nine students and is led by a member of the faculty. In essence, this program provides students with a counselor, a liaison, and a confidant within the school structure. This system personalizes students’ education, but also helps them to be best prepared for their transition into Upper School.

Advisors link teachers, students, and parents on all matters of concern regarding each individual student in their group. They become experts in the student’s progress in all five aspects of the Turning Point School philosophy—academic, creative, physical, social, and character. Our advisors embody Turning Point’s regard for the whole child.
