Elementary : Physical

All students in Levels K-1 – 5 participate in developmental, non-competitive athletics where the emphasis on coordination and teamwork skills continues. Students strive for ongoing self-improvement. Rules and mechanics of specific sports are also introduced. After mastering skills, classes play games in teams. Starting in Level 5, students have the opportunity to participate in interscholastic sports of basketball, volleyball, and football for the first time through the Coastal Canyon League. We continue to emphasize concepts of hygiene, cleanliness, and nutrition with all students. A four-year human development program featuring issues surrounding puberty and adolescence begins at Level 5.

Field Day

Every Spring, students from Levels 4 and 5 take part in an interscholastic Field Day. Turning Point students and others from schools that share our philosophy of healthy competition and joy in an active lifestyle, gather for a day of fun and games. The emphasis is always on camaraderie, not competition. After playing Water Games, Chaos Soccer, The Big Enchalada, and other games developed at Turning Point, all the students gather in the shade at Syd Kronenthal Park and enjoy lunch together. The day ends with another massive Turning Point game, Breath Breaker, which is as fun and exciting as it sounds. This is a student favorite as everyone involved has the opportunity to build lasting connections with new friends attending other independent schools.
